Continuing Education Courses

Except for the first year a mortgage loan originator is licensed, the mortgage loan originator must have satisfactorily completed eight (8) hours of continuing  education courses approved by the NMLS in order for the license to be renewed.  Failure to satisfy the ongoing continuing education requirements will render a licensee ineligible for renewal.  Normally, the course provider will submit a list of students who successfully completed a course electronically through the NMLS online system, however each Licensee is responsible for retaining proof of meeting this requirements.  See highlighted link to view listing of all NMLS approved courses and education providers.

Mortgage Loan Originators may check their education hours through NMLS. If within a reasonable time after taking a course your record has not changed, contact the provider directly to ensure that the provider has submitted the education hours to NMLS.

Please Note: A LICENSED MORTGAGE LOAN ORIGINATOR MAY NOT TAKE THE SAME APPROVED COURSE IN THE SAME OR SUCCESSIVE YEARS TO MEET THE ANNUAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION.

Courses approved for official credit toward the annual eight (8) hour continuing education requirement are found in NMLS. Credit is given for the licensing year (January 1 - December 31) in which a course is completed. If a course is started before January 1st but does not finish until on or after January 1st, credit will be given for the new licensing year. Licensees are strongly encouraged to complete their required coursework by October 31st of each year to avoid submission of additional paperwork to document renewal eligibility. Course providers will submit continuing education credit hours through the NMLS within seven calendar days of course completion. Licensees should keep course completion certificates on file should proof of coursework be needed for license renewal.
